The collection Torchbearer consists of a series of butterflies based on Danish species. Some no longer exist. Some are endangered. Others still live quietly and resiliently among us.

The butterflies are painted with the moment in mind when the first one of the year appears. The lightness with which it moves through the air on an early spring day, reminding us that something is on its way. That the light returns, even when winter has felt endless.

My intention has been to paint butterflies that symbolize the strength each of us carries in our hearts. A hope that can burn like a quiet flame as we move through difficult times. For light does not always come from the outside. Sometimes it is carried forward from within, even when it is not visible to others. And sometimes not even to ourselves.

Life can be endlessly difficult and bring periods where there is no way around. Only a way through. With the light of hope, we must find that path step by step. Torchbearer is created as a reminder of the journey through life’s darker moments. A reminder that hope is not always loud or grand, but often something quiet, personal, and persistent.

The artworks are intended for those who have been, or are, moving through something difficult. As a reminder that you are strong. That even if the journey through the darkness is not yet over, you can carry the light all the way. Brighter times lie ahead.

Torchbearer is also meant as a symbol that can be passed on to someone you love. As a sign of care, strength, and presence. A quiet way of saying that you do not walk alone.

Dette værk er et enkeltstående serigrafi, trykt i flere lag på kraftigt papir. Serigrafi er en langsom proces, hvor hvert lag bygges op for sig, og hvor små variationer i trykket giver værket sit eget udtryk.

Jeg har valgt en lys, metallisk guldakrylmaling, som reflekterer lyset og ændrer karakter alt efter omgivelserne. Overfladen fremstår rolig og mat, men med et levende skær, der træder frem, når lyset rammer værket. Det giver sommerfuglene et liv, som står i kontrast til den mørke baggrund.

Papiret er valgt for sin glatte overflade og høje kvalitet, som giver trykket både dybde og klarhed. Værket er indrammet i en aluminiumramme i guld med krystalklart glas, så værk og ramme spiller naturligt sammen.

Dette serigrafi er skabt som et særligt Gold Edition-værk med fokus på materialer, lysets refleksion og en balance mellem ro og vildskab. Det er et værk, der vil vokse med dig år efter år.

Screenprinting is a slow technique that is more than a thousand years old, where presence and repetition are essential. The colour is slowly pressed through a fine mesh and built up layer by layer on the heavy paper.

Each print requires time and precision, and this is reflected in a high-quality print with a very high level of detail. For this reason, I have chosen screen printing as the technique for this series. Each print is unique. The pressure of the hand, the density of the colour and the surface of the paper all influence the final expression. Small variations inevitably occur and are a central part of the technique. It is precisely these differences that make screenprinting so compelling. Each time you look at a print, new details may emerge, details that were not necessarily visible at first glance.

Each screenprint is unique because it is handmade, and because repetition in the process creates variation. The acrylic colours are chosen for their depth and interaction with one another. On the warm-pressed, high-quality paper, the colours take on a rich character and create a silky-smooth surface texture. The matte finish softens the light and allows the colours to appear calm, clear and concentrated.

The 40 x 40 cm format is a deliberate choice. Butterflies are anything but square, yet the square format creates a frame that balances their symbolism of freedom. The size fits easily into any home and can function both as a central piece in a room and as part of a larger whole.
